Self-care and _______

Over the course of 2018 and into 2019, Thick Press collaborated with self-care coach, Gracy Obuchowicz, and designer Maria Habib on selfcarefully, slated for publication in the spring of 2019. In order to generate content about self-care, leadership, and social justice work, Gracy conducted interviews with three justice-seekers: Leo Davis, Elsa Duré, and Louise Green. In those interviews, other related themes arose: for example, spirituality, dismantling structures, and community.

In September of 2018, Thick Press published book, emerging #1 (edition of 20), which consisted of an interview between Gracy and Louise, as well as a reprinted article about relational community organizing written by Louise in 2006. The purpose of that booklet was to express and explore some aspects of selfcarefully that relate to justice-seeking work. It also represents the origin of Thick Press’ collaboration with Gracy; it was through Louise’s article, and then through Louise, that Erin Segal of Thick Press first met Gracy.

This book, emerging #1a has the same purpose as book, emerging #1. However, the content reflects a later version of selfcarefully—and Louise’s article is the the only element that remains unchanged.
